 Mary Bustin (Birkbeck College)

Mary Bustin is a painting conservator with a research interest in the material choices made by artists and the practical techniques they develop to resolve the problems of painting. Her approach includes the technical examination of paintings. Her current research focus is 20th-century British painters. Past publications include Mary Beale: Experimental Secrets and Extraordinary Colours (1999) and Gwen John: The Rules or Problems of Painting (2004). She is also an MA student in the History of Art at Birkbeck College.
