Helen Gorill undertook a PhD supervised by Jill Journeaux at Coventry School of Art & Design and Judith Mottram at the Royal College of Art; she is now based at Unviersity of Edinburgh. Gorill’s PhD research investigated gendered economic and symbolic value of contemporary British painting. She studied paintings which have appeared at London auctions between 1992-94 and 2012-14 - some of the women painters in her remit were active in the 1940s to 1950s.
